I am building a diarama of the USS Hornet at 1/350 scale. I want to add a destroyer but I need to know scale.?

I am building this diarama to honor my father who recently passed away. He was always talking about the Dolittle Raid and how much he loved that ship. I want to add an escort ship, something along an Essex class destroyer but the 1/350 scale destroyers are as big as the carrier model. Can any one tell me what scale the destroyer has to be so it looks right? Thanks for your assistance. By the way, the kit is by trumpeter if, that is any further help.
